Welcome to After Storytime

Thanks so much for visiting After Storytime! I'm so glad you're here!

I started this blog because I love books. I worked in a public library for 10 years before my chronic health conditions put a stop to that. I miss it dearly. But my reading habits haven't changed much. I like to say you can take the librarian out of the library, but now the books need to come to me.

I hope you can find a good book here. I read a little bit of everything, but I love fantasy, romance, and YA. I don't read horror.

I rate books based on how much I enjoyed reading the book. But a 1 star rating usually means I hated the entire experience, where at 5 stars there's a good chance I'd re-read the book. I don't usually change my ratings unless I do re-read the book.

Some of my favorite books:

  • Emily of New Moon — I know Anne is the popular choice to love, and I do love Anne of Green Gables, but I keep coming back to Emily, I seemed to connect with her misunderstood spirit a bit more growing up. The books also felt a bit more poetic and I loved that.
  • The House in the Cerulean Sea — The children in this story have my entire heart. And the love that blossomed between Linus and Arthur was the sweetest thing to watch develop.
  • What Doesn't Kill You — This is a memoir about Tessa Miller who has Crohn's disease, and while I don't have Crohn's disease I do have a lot of chronic illnesses and this book really helped change my outlook on how I take care of myself. It also posed the question of what do we do when we get sick and we don't get better?
  • Throne of Glass — Celaena is one of the best main female main characters I've read about. And the way the worldbuilding unfolds in each book was amazing.
  • Fangirl — I ADORE Cath and Levi. Also, a story about a girl who writes fanfiction? How could I not love that?
  • Cinder — This is a sci-fi fairytale retelling, which, when I first read it didn't understand how that would work. But it does. And it's wonderful. It's a story I've read multiple times. I adore each and every character.
  • The Lightning Thief — I love Percy Jackson. I've definitely read this series a couple of times. I'm always looking for a good Greek mythology retelling.
